Son of two-time Indianapolis 500 champion Arie Luyendyk.

Moved to Scottsdale, Ariz., from native Holland when he was 2 years old.

Oldest of four children; has a sister (Maida, 16) and twin brothers (Luca and Alec, 11)

Considered a career in modeling before beginning his racing career.

Enjoys listening to music, working out, practicing yoga, traveling, cooking and snowboarding.

Favorite food is sushi; favorite band is Incubus.

 

 
Career

2007
· Competed in two Indy Pro Series races with Guthrie Racing.

2006
· Competed in four Indy Pro Series events with AFS Racing, recording a season-best finish of fourth at Homestead-Miami.
· Qualified 31st for the 90th Indianapolis 500, driving for Luyendyk Racing. Finished 28th in his IndyCar Series debut, retiring after 54 laps due to handling problems.

2005
·
Competed in nine Indy Pro Series events, finishing in the top 10 every time.
· Recorded season-best finish of fourth at Phoenix.
· Competed in three races with AFS Racing and six races with Brian Stewart Racing.
· Attempted to qualify for the 89th Indianapolis 500.

2004
· Finished third in the Indy Pro Series point standings, recording six top-five finishes.
· Began season with Sam Schmidt Motorsports, recording a second-place finish at Phoenix and a third-place finish at Indianapolis.
· Competed with AFS Racing in the final five races, recording four top-five finishes.


2003
· Earned two pole positions (Michigan, Texas) and recorded eight top-10 finishes on his way to seventh place in the Indy Pro Series championship. Recorded season-best third-place finishes at Pikes Peak International Raceway and Gateway International Raceway.


2002
· Finished second overall in the Indy Pro Series, with four second-place finishes in seven events. Started on the front row three times and claimed his first series pole position in the Michigan 100 at Michigan International Speedway. Led three races for a total of 64 laps.

2001
· Competed in the U.S. F2000 Series. Earned nine top-10 results in 14 events with best finish of fourth at Indianapolis Raceway Park and Watkins Glen. Finished ninth in national championship and fifth in the “Oval Crown” championship.
· Won the SCCA F2000 SoPAC national championship on the strength of four victories.
· Finished third at the SCCA F2000 Valvoline Run-Offs.
· Finished third in Formula Ford 1800 competition at the Marlboro Masters in Zandvoort, Netherlands.

2000
· Competed in the North American Formula Ford 2000 series. Qualified ninth in open-wheel, oval-racing debut at Phoenix International Raceway. Earned top finishes of fifth at Indianapolis Raceway Park and sixth at Road America.
· Entered Skip Barber Formula Dodge competition. Claimed the pole position and the race victory in his first series start. Finished in the top three in seven of eight events.

1999
· Contested the SCCA Formula Ford 1600 national series, claiming victory in only his third series start.
· Competed in European Formula Ford 1800, with a best finish of fifth at the Marlboro Masters in Zandvoort, Netherlands.
· Competed in three events in the American Action Race Truck Series.

1998
· Entered SCCA Formula Ford 1600 regional competition, earning the pole position and race win at Phoenix International Raceway in only his second series start.
· Competed in European Formula Ford 1800 series, earning two top-10 finishes in three starts.

1992
