LONG WEEKEND IN THE OFFICE FOR KV AFS' SEBASTIAN SAAVEDRA AT TEXAS

By Kevin Diamond

FORT WORTH, TEXAS - June 7, 2014 - Sebastian Saavedra's long weekend in the office resulted in him 17th tonight at the Firestone 600 at Texas Motor Speedway in Ft. Worth, Texas.

Having qualified the No. 17 Automatic Fire Sprinklers, Inc. - KV AFS Racing Chevrolet/Dallara/Firestone a disappointing 19th yesterday, the team made some changes today, to try and provide Saavedra a more balanced racecar. When the green flag was shown this evening, he made an immediate charge and by lap five, when the first yellow came out, he was 13th. However, as he began settling into the race, the car became looser and Saavedra started losing the positions he had gained and eventually went a lap down. Luck came his way though on the fourth pit stop, lap 120, as he was already committed to coming in when the yellow was again shown, He therefore managed to get his lap back and was sitting in 14th at the restart. Saavedra gained another spot and remained there until the next stop 48 laps later. However, as he left his pit box following the stop he hit the outside rear tire set out for Will Power and received a drive through penalty. He re-joined the race in 17th, where he remained until the checkered flag.

DAY ENDS EARLY FOR SAAVEDRA IN DETROIT

DETROIT, MI

By Kevin Diamond KV/AFS Racing

A long doubleheader weekend came to an early end when a mistake by KV AFS driver Sebastian Saavedra caused him to make contact with the wall and finish 22nd for Race 2 of the Chevrolet Indy Dual in Detroit presented by Quicken Loans on Belle Isle, Michigan.

Qualifying for for Race 2 this morning, saw the field split into two groups with each group getting 12 minutes of track time to determine the starting grid. Saavedra went out in group two and after just two laps the red flag was brought out due to debris on the track from Ryan Hunter-Reay's contact with the wall. With five minutes remaining, the track went green and on the final lap, Saavedra set his best time of 77.0688 seconds, which put him ninth on the grid.

DISAPPOINTING FIRST RACE FOR KV AFS RACING'S SEBASTIAN SAAVEDRA IN DETROIT

By Kevin Diamond KV/AFS Racing

When the green flag was shown for the 70-lap race this afternoon, Saavedra remained consistently in the same position. He felt the car had pretty good balance and if anything just a little bit of understeer. However, when he switched to the Firestone alternate (red) tires on lap 17, within 10 laps Saavedra started noticing the rear end of the car was becoming lose and a few laps later pitted early to go back to a new set of black tires. From then on he battled with the cars ahead and withheld pressure from those behind. The team took a gamble to pit when the race went back to green for the third time on lap 45 in the hope that yellows would play in their favor and fuel could then be saved. Unfortunately despite Saavedra managing to work his way up to 10th place and at the same time save fuel, he came up just short on the final lap and had to relinquish positions, to finish 14th. He picked up 16 points in race 1 and sits 19th in the championship with 117 points, 35 away from 10th.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - May 25, 2014 - KV AFS Racing's Sebastian Saavedra climbed 17 positions today to finish 15th at the 98th running of the Indianapolis 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indianapolis, IN.
Saavedra started 32nd in his No. 17 KV AFS Racing Chevrolet/Dallara/Firestone. He immediately moved up five spots on the first lap and by the time he made his second stop was running 21st. He began struggling with understeer and pace from the car and when the second yellow flag was shown, the crew made a rear and front wing change. With laps running out, drivers began taking more risks and the yellow flags were becoming more common. With 10 laps to go, the red flag was shown for the amount of debris on track from his teammate Townsend Bell's accident in turn two. Saavedra had sustained a broken front end plate from that prior restart, but with just five laps remaining courageously opted to stay out and was rewarded with 15th, his best finish in four Indy 500 attempts.
